Ponta announces increase in VAT revenue
Prime Minister Victor Ponta, currently on vacation in the USA, announced on Thursday that ANAF's revenues from VAT had increased in June by RON 60 million, on an annual basis, despite the VAT rate cut.

Dragnea: "I asked for an impact study"
Liviu Dragnea, interim leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), stated yesterday that Victor Ponta and Klaus Iohannis are wrong to continue their "war", especially when it comes to the Fiscal Code. Dragnea added that he had asked the Ministry of Finance to conduct an impact study regarding the Code.

Bankers take interest rates to new lows
At the end of June, banks paid an average interest rate of 1.8% on new, RON-denominated retail deposits, an all-time low and down 1.3 pp from a year ago. New loans carried an average interest rate of 6.5% per year, according to the National Bank of Romania (BNR).

New special administrator sees Hidroelectrica IPO in 2017

Vulcan builds oil equipment
Vulcan Bucharest, an insolvent company controlled by businessman Ovidiu Tender, has invested EUR 350,000 in designing and building an oil extraction equipment. "This was made in Romania 100%, using Vulcan's technology and labor," said CEO Remus Vulpescu. The equipment will soon be heading toward the Persian Gulf.
