The Foreign Investors Council (FIC) has a permanent commitment to support the medical sector in Romania, and in 2013 it started carrying out communication campaigns, projects, and courses dedicated to doctors, residents, and medical students under the generic name „My profession: Doctor in Romania”. From 2019 until now, we have focused on the problems faced by hospital managers in practice, both in terms of the necessary skills, but also of the legal framework in which it operates.
Together with the Ministry of Health and other internationally renowned institutions, we started a series of courses dedicated to hospital managers “Leaders for Excellence in Healthcare”. The project is based on the international model “Leadership for European Public Health” developed by the University of Maastricht together with the European Commission and includes three modules dedicated to leadership and communication, funding sources, and public procurement procedures.
The Romanian health system faces various challenges such as those related to the lack of specialized human resources and limited funding. To meet these needs, the Foreign Investors Council together with the Ministry of Health organized in June the fourth edition of the project “Leaders for Excellence in Healthcare” to provide a presentation and dialogue platform on funding opportunities for hospitals in Romania, and on the latest changes in the public procurement process. The event brought together representatives of the business environment, authorities, financial and international institutions, and top management of public hospitals.
During the event, the Ministry of Health represented by the Minister, Mr. Prof. M.D. Ph.D. Alexandru Rafila, and the State Secretary, Mr. Assist. Prof. M.D. Ph.D. Alexandru Rogobete, presented the directions for oncology development in Romania (investments and implementation) and funding opportunities in the health system for the period 2022-2027. At the same time, representatives of the National Agency for Public Procurement (ANAP), National Institute of Public Health (INSP), National Agency for the Development of Health Infrastructure (ANDIS), Directorate-General for Structural Reform Support within the European Commission (DG REFORM), World Health Organization (WHO), National Authority for Quality Management in Health (ANMCS), National Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices in Romania (ANMDMR) and the State Health Counsellor in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, Mrs. Carmen Orban, joined the project.
Throughout the four editions of the project “Leaders for Excellence in Healthcare” (2019-2023) there were over 100 participants from the top management of 72 public hospitals in Romania, both large hospitals and medical institutes in all therapeutic areas.
FIC vice-president, Ramona Jurubiță highlighted during the event that health remains a long-term priority for investors: ”One of the main pillars of the project Va Urma – www.vaurma.ro (an economic growth model for the country elaborated by FIC) is human capital and health. Together with the authorities, we want to continue investing in people for the next 20 years and to build healthy Romania for future generations.”
